Wax is in preview.
Works on my machine does not mean works on your machine. The preview is where Wax meets new hardware, different software, weird workloads, and anything else nobody thought to test for. Breaking changes are possible as the wider world reveals what Wax needs.
What can I use today?
You can install Wax and build substantial programs with it. You can record and inspect their execution, work from an editor through the language server, and embed Wax using typed bindings for supported languages.
Is Wax ready for production?
Not as a dependency you can adopt and forget about. Wax is not ready to be dropped into a production system without active support quite yet. If you are considering Wax for a real project, get in touch to discuss what your use case needs.
Where is development focused?
Development is focused on UI, compiler and platform hardening, the optimizer, parallelism, and Wax’s fast middle tier code generator. macOS, Linux, Windows, iOS, and Android are all part of that work. There is also a lot of polish still to do across diagnostics, installation, documentation, the package client, and the CLI.
Can I use Wax commercially?
Yes. Wax is free during the developer preview, including commercial use. The long term plan is for Wax to become a paid product. Pricing and transition terms have not been decided yet, and both will be announced before the preview ends.
What should I do if I find a problem?
Please get in touch to report it. New environments and unexpected workloads are the point of the preview. Share what you find, ask questions, and follow development on Discord.
